Description: This is a beginner’s guide to learning to grow cut flowers. No green thumb or experience necessary!
Because of Charleston’s climate, we’re lucky to have two distinct growing seasons: a warm and cool season. Which is amazing…but the trick is learning what flowers to grow when.
What you’ll learn:
- An understanding of your growing zone + what flowers and herbs to grow in the cool season
- How to read a seed packet
- Annuals vs. Perennials
- Growing from seed, bulbs, and corms
- How to layout / design your garden bed or pots
- Why cut-and-come-again flowers are the hero of any garden
- The best resources for your growing needs (seeds, tools, etc.)
- Learn which flowers have dual purposes (ones for drying and fabric dying)
- Economical and sustainable ways to get the most out of your garden.
This session is a hands-on workshop.
We’ll seed trays together, transplant seedlings, and learn best planting / cutting practices. Please wear comfy clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Some benefits of learning to grow:
- Finding more calm and managing stress
- Creating a deeper connection to self
- Feeling more creative
- Finding new ways to get offline
- Building more social connections
- Creating more resilience + patience
- Finding opportunities to move your body
- Making your space feel more special
