Description:
Learn the fundamentals of glass tube bending through the art of transforming your own profile into a sculptural line drawing. Inspired by traditional neon fabrication, this hands-on workshop introduces the essential techniques used to shape glass tubing while creating a unique piece to take home.
Students will learn glass studio safety, pattern drawing, glass cutting, and introductory glass bending techniques, along with a brief history of neon and an overview of how neon signs are made and illuminated. Using soft glass tubing, each participant will bend a simplified outline of their own facial profile, gaining practical experience with the foundational skills that lead to neon fabrication.
Working with glass is both challenging and rewarding, and this class is designed to make the learning process approachable while providing a meaningful finished piece. While this workshop does not cover the gas-filling and processing required to create illuminated neon, it builds the core hand skills that every neon bender starts with.
