When: Tuesday, Nov 10, 2026

Time: 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Instructor: Taylor Black

Cost: $40

Age: 21+

Description:

The class will be a playful exploration of building textures and colors with acrylic glazing and then intertwining some water soluble wax pastel accents while referencing a photograph. The class will be taught using palette knives - no prior experience needed. I think the focus will be playing with transparency levels and seeing how the colors interact. Then the "Little Treats" come in and we'll use water soluble wax pastels “adult crayons” to bring in more playfulness with more control. Each student will take home their finished 9x12" canvas artwork. A glass of wine is provided!

Teacher Bio:

Taylor Black is a contemporary abstract artist based in Charleston, South Carolina, whose work explores the relationship between memory, place, and everyday experience. Using acrylic, photography, water-soluble wax pastels, and mixed media, she transforms photographs and personal experiences into layered compositions through color, texture, and embedded materials. Inspired by architecture, landscapes, travel, everyday objects, and shared meals, her work explores the stories that accumulate around people and places over time.

Black earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Mississippi State University in 2011. Her recent artist residencies include Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, South Carolina, and Château d’Orquevaux in France. Her work has been featured in the 2026 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition, group exhibitions at Silver Hill Gallery and GapGallery, and the annual Redux Art Auction. Through her practice, Black invites curiosity and encourages viewers to discover personal connections, unexpected details, and moments of pleasure within the layers of each work.
