2D Hand-Drawn Animation: The Illusion of Life

Description:

This class is a hands-on introduction to 2D animation, designed for curious artists with no prior animation experience required. Over six weeks, students will learn the 12 core principles of animation that create the illusion of life. Using traditional paper and pencil, students will complete short animation exercises based on each principle, building toward a fully animated character walk cycle.

By the final week, students will have:

• A clear understanding of the 12 fundamental principles of 2D animation
• An original character design created specifically for animation
• A completed hand-drawn walk cycle
• The ability to capture and assemble animations using paper and a smartphone
• The confidence to continue creating short animated videos independently

All materials needed to create animations on paper will be provided. Students who prefer to work digitally are welcome to bring their own tools, as the concepts taught in this class apply universally across mediums.

REFUND POLICY

Classes/Workshops: Redux Contemporary Art Center may cancel any class with insufficient enrollment; students will be notified and given a full refund. If a student withdraws at least 48 hours before the class begins, they will be refunded their tuition minus an administrative fee. If a student withdraws within 48 hours before the class begins, no refunds will be given. Students are not enrolled until complete payment is received. Redux will not pro-rate or offer make-up days for student absences.
