Description:

A 6-week, beginner-friendly course covering the theory and practice of designing compelling characters. We'll build a solid foundation using theories of shape language, silhouette, proportion, and appeal. Then push further into how design choices communicate personality, backstory, and emotional depth to audiences.

Along the way, we'll work on the drawing techniques necessary for strong designs: gesture, construction, and volume control. Rather than designing in isolation, you'll develop a small cast within a shared universe, and for those leaning toward animation, there will be the option to cover production-ready turnarounds and expression sheets.

You can work in digital or traditional mediums as the final outputs will be personal to your own storytelling ambitions. You'll leave with a cast of characters and the confidence to develop stories and worlds on your own.

If you want to work in a digital medium, you must bring your materials. All traditional materials will be provided.

REFUND POLICY

Classes/Workshops: Redux Contemporary Art Center may cancel any class with insufficient enrollment; students will be notified and given a full refund. If a student withdraws at least 48 hours before the class begins, they will be refunded their tuition minus an administrative fee. If a student withdraws within 48 hours before the class begins, no refunds will be given. Students are not enrolled until complete payment is received. Redux will not pro-rate or offer make-up days for student absences.
